A Slinky, Silky Button-Up Is Fall’s Chicest Investment

Earlier this month, Kendall Jenner headed out to dinner at Carbone in New York City with boyfriend Bad Bunny in tow, and her sexy date night look was even better than the spicy rigatoni. Instead of your standard LBD, the model slipped into a silky white button-up shirt from Mango, pairing it with a sleek pair of black trousers and boots. I was instantly struck by her choice of top. If it were made of cotton, it would read almost business-like, but the slinky fabric instantly made it feel cool and elegant. Romantic, even! Turns out, Jenner isn’t the only celebrity on board with the piece for fall.

Earlier this month, Meghan Markle attended the Invictus Games in a silky brown L’Agence top, paired with khaki trousers. At the Venice Film Festival, model Candice Swanepoel nailed off-duty dressing in a silky paisley button-up, with the trousers to match. J.Lo paired her cream style with distressed jeans. There’s something effortless and chic about all of these looks. The silk tops are dressy without trying to be too dressy. Designers are taking notice, and the shirt has been emerging as a breakout trend on this fashion month’s runways too. Theory, Altuzarra, and Ralph Lauren have all shown versions of the fluid top in their new spring 2024 collections.
